JOHAN PLANEFELDT - Director of Photography

BIOGRAPHY

Johan Planefeldt is an award-winning Swedish cinematographer with a deep-rooted background in fine arts. His cinematic work is defined by a distinctive visual language that explores the intersections of tactility and embodiment mixed with Scandinavian aesthetics and a sensitive use of natural light. With a career spanning over two decades, Johan’s work as a Director of Photography has been recognized with multiple artist awards and screened at major festivals, including the Stockholm and Gothenburg International Film Festivals.

Having spent years directing and shooting his critically acclaimed short films and music videos, Johan possesses a unique "Director’s shorthand." This allows him to anticipate a director’s needs, focus on the emotional arc of a scene, and translate complex concepts into evocative lighting and camera movement. Whether shooting high-end commercials or intimate narrative drama, his work is defined by a deep sensitivity to light, rhythm, and human connection.

His versatile portfolio includes collaborations with major clients such as Universal Music, Facebook, the European Commission, and Swedish Television (SVT), as well as prestigious cultural institutions like the Staatstheater Cottbus, the Swedish National Ballet School, and Riksteatern.
